Overview & Highlights

This group trip pairs the best of northern Tanzania with the Indian Ocean coast. You begin in Arusha and visit Tarangire and Lake Manyara, then cross to the Serengeti for a full day of game drives and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater. After the safari, you fly from Arusha to Zanzibar for three nights. There is a guided walk through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a spice tour, and a free day on the beach. A trip captain travels with the group, and Indian meal options can be arranged on request.

Itinerary

1Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro | Transfer to Arusha
  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and complete visa and immigration formalities.
  • Meet our representative and your trip captain, and transfer to Arusha.
  • Check in to the hotel and rest after your journey.
  • Overnight stay in Arusha.
2Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
  • After breakfast, drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park.
  • Enjoy an afternoon game drive among elephants and baobab trees.
  • Check in to the lodge or camp for dinner.
  • Overnight stay in the Tarangire area.
3Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park
  • After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its tree-climbing lions and varied birdlife.
  • Enjoy a game drive in the park.
  • Check in to the lodge in the Karatu area and relax.
  • Overnight stay in Karatu.
4Day 4: Karatu to the Serengeti
  • After breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards the Serengeti.
  • Enjoy game viewing on the way as the landscape opens onto the plains.
  • Arrive at the lodge or camp in time for dinner.
  • Overnight stay in the Serengeti.
5Day 5: Full Day in the Serengeti
  • Spend the day on game drives across the Serengeti plains, with a packed lunch in the park.
  • Look out for lions, zebras, wildebeest and giraffes.
  • Return to the lodge or camp for dinner.
  • Overnight stay in the Serengeti.
6Day 6: Serengeti Morning Drive | Ngorongoro Highlands
  • Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti.
  • After breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro highlands.
  • Check in to the lodge and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
  • Overnight stay in Karatu or the Ngorongoro area.
7Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater | Return to Arusha
  • Descend early into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive.
  • Look for lions, elephants, hippos, zebras and hyenas on the crater floor.
  • After lunch, drive to Arusha and check in to the hotel.
  • Overnight stay in Arusha.
8Day 8: Fly to Zanzibar
  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight from Arusha to Zanzibar.
  • On arrival, transfer to your beach hotel and check in.
  • Spend the rest of the day at leisure by the sea.
  • Overnight stay in Zanzibar.
9Day 9: Stone Town Walk | Spice Tour
  • After breakfast, take a guided walk through Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its narrow lanes and carved doors.
  • Continue to a spice tour to see and smell the spices Zanzibar is famous for.
  • Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
  • Overnight stay in Zanzibar.
10Day 10: Free Day on the Beach
  • Enjoy a free day to swim, relax or add optional activities such as water sports.
  • Your trip captain can help you plan the day.
  • Join the group for a farewell dinner.
  • Overnight stay in Zanzibar.
11Day 11: Departure from Zanzibar
  • After breakfast, check out of the hotel.
  • Transfer to Zanzibar airport for your flight home.
  • Depart with memories of safari and sea.

Notes

  • Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel.
  • Standard hotel check-in is around 2 pm and check-out around 12 noon.
  • The order of the itinerary may change with weather, road, flight or operational conditions, without reducing the sights covered.

  • This is a group departure that runs on minimum numbers, and a trip captain accompanies the group.
  • The Arusha to Zanzibar flight is on a smaller aircraft with a strict baggage allowance, so soft-sided bags are recommended.
  • Zanzibar is a predominantly Muslim destination; dress modestly in Stone Town and the villages, and keep swimwear for the beach.
  • Carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate if required for your route, and speak to your doctor about malaria precautions before travel.
  • Camouflage-pattern clothing is prohibited in Tanzania, and plastic carrier bags are restricted.
